Manager Iain Dowie worked wonders in promoting a side that was hovering around the bottom of Division One earlier in the season, but avoiding a Premiership whitewash will be a much tougher challenge. Players such as goalkeeping duo Julian Speroni and Gabor Kiraly and Finnish winger Joonas Kolkka will strengthen the squad, but names such as Fulham reserve Mark Hudson and former Luton defender Emmerson Boyce won't give the Palace doubters cause to change their minds. Palace are going down, as simple as that. The 4/9 (Stanleybet) on relegation won't make you rich but it is one of the safest bets of the season. |

| Not quite the safest bet of the season - it went down to the wire. Palace could only draw with Charlton on the last day of the season which sent them down as W.B.A. managed a win against Portsmouth for an unlikely Premiership survival. | |
