Portsmouth stormed Division One last season but the step-up in class between the Premier and Nationwide Leagues was apparent during their 4-1 FA Cup thrashing against Man United, despite taking the lead. Manager Harry Redknapp will be without top scorer Svetoslav Todoro, ruled out for at least a season with knee ligament damage. New signings Teddy Sheringham, Patrik Berger, Sebastien Schemmel, Dejan Stefanovic, Boris Zivkovic, Amdy Faye and goalkeeper Harald Wapenaar are all likely to make their debuts and live on Sky. Villa were terrible away from home last season, winning just one game. But that was under Graham Taylor and his stone-age methods of play. In David O'Leary they have a progressive young manager whose success at Leeds was unquestionable. O'Leary has also brought quality players such as Alpay and Angel out of the cold and back into first team contention. New signings Thomas Sorensen and Gavin McCann are poised to make their debuts and will make an immediate impact. But striker Darius Vassell is out with an ankle injury. Villa could well take something from the game - and a draw is enough for a winning bet. |
