The second televised clash of the day pits play-off semi-finalists Forest against freshly-relegated Sunderland. Despite a drop down in class the future doesn't bode well for the visitors. Players such as David Bellion, Jody Craddock, Thomas Sorensen and Gavin McCann have all departed the Stadium of Light while Kevin Phillips and Michael Gray are notable absentees from today's squad. New signing Gary Breen is short of match fitness while Claudio Reyna is not ready to play 90 minutes. Manager Mick McCarthy has yet register a point since taking over at the club - that's 15 losses in a row stretching back to mid-December. Sunderland netted just three goals in the last 12 games of their unsuccessful fight against the drop and could have a torrid time at Forest. The hosts look good to start the season on a positive note. New arrivals Danny Sonner, Brynjar Gunnarsson and loan signing Michael Stewart from Manchester United boost the midfield but Michael Dawson and Gareth Williams are missing. Strikers David Johnson and Marlon Harewood could become the most deadly duo in the division. Johnson notably blasted in four goals during a 6-1 victory over Rushden last week in preparation for the new season. |
