Bet Summary

Birmingham City vs Tottenham Hotspur

16 August 2003
Competition:
Premier League
Betting Preview:
Birmingham look a good bet to start the season on a positive note, dspite Tottenham recruiting three new strikers over the summer. Birmingham have gone six Premiership games at St. Andrews without defeat and last lost a home game on 8 February, when Chelsea beat them 3-1. Birmingham claimed 13 points from the last 18 available and only Man United finished last season with a stronger record - they collected 16 points out of 18. Tottenham, on the other hand, endured a terrible spell at the end of the last campaign - picking up only four points from the last six games and the White Hart Lane club kept fewer clean sheets than any other in the Premier League last season, a miserly five in total. Maik Taylor and David Dunn are set to make senior debuts, while Christophe Dugarry has shaken off a knee problem. Spurs are currently suffering a major injury crisis with Gustavo Poyet (broken wrist) and Christian Ziege (thigh) both ruled out long term while Freddy Kanoute, Darren Anderton, Dean Richards, Ledley King, Jonathan Blondel and Kazuyuki Toda are also missing. Centre-back Chris Perry is banned. Spurs look an outstanding lay for this opening day fixture.
